A user consultation workshop on space-based EO tools for mapping and monitoring soils will take place from 02 to 03 July 2019 at ESA ESRIN, Frascati, Italy with the aim to bring together stakeholders from the policy and user domain with remote sensing experts to discuss the necessary steps to develop such a system.

The focus will be on the potential use of existing and future planned space-based EO systems including data gaps and research issues of priority. The outcome of the workshop will be used to develop a roadmap of relevant research and demonstration activities supporting the development and implementation of a space-based EO Soil Monitoring System.

The workshop will be organized in thematic sessions comprising solicited keynote presentations and oral/poster presentations selected from an open call. It will facilitate discussions to collect inputs and suggestions from the following communities:

The European Space Agency is organizing the fifth Advances in SAR Oceanography workshop, SeaSAR 2018, which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN from 7 to 10 May 2018.

The workshop is part of the #EOScience4Society – Scientific Exploitation Programme element aimed at exploiting data from ESA and operational EO Missions (e.g. Copernicus Sentinels) for science and application development.

Objectives

The main objectives for the workshop are:

• Report on progress/status of recommendations of SeaSAR 2012
• Provide a forum for scientific exchange and to assess the state of art in SAR coastal and marine applications, virtual labs, tools, virtual platforms.

The European Space Agency, in the context of the "Earth Observations Science for Society" Programme, and CNES are organising a sequel event to Hydrospace2015, called 4th Space for Hydrology Workshop - "Inland Water Storage and Runoff: Modeling, In Situ Data and Remote Sensing", Monday 7 - Friday 11 June 2021, hosted at ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy. This time around the Hydrospace Workshop is organised in collaboration with the GEO Global Water Sustainability Initiative (GEOGloWS) - see the Objectives page - looking for opportunities to explore joint solutions with a broader view on key science questions for Research and Development, up to Operational use of remote sensing information. The aim of getting together during 4~4.5 days is to strengthen the collaboration between the four critical water communities: in situ, modelling and space observation scientists as well as “non-scientific” users such as water managers to address the needs of the application community.

This year's European Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR) will take place in Rome, Italy, on 21-23 November. Participants will discuss the outcomes of the 2017 EFDRR held in Turkey and the 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction held in Mexico, and aim to address key issues that can accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement

In the frame of the EO Science for Society Programme Element, the European Space Agency is organising the 2nd Mapping Water Bodies from Space Conference.

The purpose of this conference is to provide scientists and data users with the opportunity to present first-hand and up-to-date results from their on-going research and application development activities by using data from past and current Satellites.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is preparing an innovative Earth Observation (EO) scientific exploitation programme – referred as Earth Observation Open Science 2.0 - to maximize the scientific benefits of Earth Observation (EO) data by capitalizing on the digital revolution.

In this context, ESA is organizing a community consultation meeting in ESRIN (Frascati, Italy) on 12-14 Oct 2015 to explore to the new challenges and opportunities for EO research created by the rapid advances in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT).
